The Ugam-Chatkal State National Nature Park was created in 1990 on the basis of the Chatkal Biosphere Reserve, located in the spurs of the Chatkal Range of the Western Tien Shan, with the addition of the Akhangaran, Brichmullinsky and Chirchik forestries. Today its area is 506941 hectares and it is the largest nature conservation complex in Uzbekistan.
Flora
For lovers of mountain flora, the Western Tien Shan is an attractive place due to the great diversity of flora. No less than 1,700 species of plants live here - from the Turan desert flora to the high-mountain flora of the Pamir-Alai.
Fauna
The wildlife of the Uzbek part of the Western Tien Shan includes about 230 species.
The park is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
